Red Dot Square Solutions has a market-leading position as a supplier of custom virtual reality solutions for research and visualisation in the retail environment. Operating from headquarters in Milton Keynes and with offices in the U.S., it employs more than 60 people and has clients across the U.S. and Europe including many of the largest manufacturers and retailers in the World. It can deploy virtual reality software to a network of over 60 field sites to conduct market research trials. It also supplies specialist ICE lab facilities for visualisation and collaborative design work.

Red Dot Square Solutions is seeking to attract software engineers and developers of the highest calibre to maintain its competitive advantage through the further development and enhancement of its VISSRAE software suite.

Candidates for all three roles will be expected to demonstrate the qualities that contribute to 'Red Dot' success factors:

In particular, qualities of enthusiasm, initiative, problem-solving, innovation and team spirit are all highly prized. Educational qualifications should include a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other relevant discipline, with good grades from a reputable university. Higher degrees are also welcome.

Salaries are by negotiation, based on skills and experience, and are likely to be highly competitive. Other benefits include a bonus scheme, eligibility to join the company's Group Personal Pension plan, and 20 days holiday per annum in addition to statutory Bank holidays.

C++ Virtual Reality Application Developer (I)

This is a strategic role. You will be working to develop the next generation of VISSRAE software; adding capabilities and features, and integrating new hardware and software technologies into the product suite. You will be involved with all stages of the product life-cycle leading up to wide-scale deployment. In particular, you will be responsible for understanding the requirements of an initial concept, researching solutions, liaising with our technology partners, implementing and testing prototypes, and delivering a final software solution at an appropriate level of quality and performance.

You will have a solid practical understanding of modern software engineering methods and specific skills in the programming of 3D-graphics using C++. The technologies currently used include: C++, OpenGL/GLSL, OpenSceneGraph, Qt, PostgreSQL, XML, HTTP, OpenSSL. There is a strong emphasis on Open Source software. Development is cross-platform between Linux and Windows-XP/Vista using the GNU GCC and Eclipse IDE. CVS and SVN are used for version control.

Some likely areas of application include eye-tracking, bio-sensing, haptics, 3D-interfaces, distributed rendering and novel display technologies. This role will require a capacity for innovation and original thinking which might be evident, for instance, from a background in academic research or industrial R&D.

C++ Virtual Reality Application Developer (II)

This is a tactical role. You will be working to maintain the existing code base of the VISSRAE suite and to supply additional features and customizations as requested for specific client projects. You will need to liaise with the customer relationship, operations and analysis teams to understand the needs of each project. You will be responsible for supplying software to meet these needs, whilst anticipating the needs of future projects, using an evolutionary and iterative development process. This will involve a balance of design and development with careful version control and system testing to ensure that software is delivered to the field on-time and at an appropriate level of quality and performance.

You will have a solid practical understanding of modern software engineering methods and specific skills in the programming of 3D-graphics using C++. Experience of agile methods would be an advantage. The technologies currently used include: C++, OpenGL/GLSL, OpenSceneGraph, Qt, PostgreSQL, XML, HTTP, OpenSSL.
