send sms by GPS modem

I am student, I need to program small console application for college: working with files and structures and I know how to do it. But I need simple code for send and receives message from mobile phone. Is someone have a solution to my problem (I just need function send and read message ) I do not want lost time how it works because that is not the topic of my work.
I have GPS modem HUAWEI model:E1550.
