Psuedo 3D Road?

Hey, I'm trying to figure out how to make a pseudo 3d road effect. I've read this http://www.gorenfeld.net/lou/pseudo/ which explains it quite well but I'm still not getting it. I know how to get the pseudo effect for an object or a car, but not for a road. For example, do I just make 16 strips each loading in 1/16 of a road texture and then texture every 2nd piece darker and then use the perspective scaling looped?
I don't know how to help you there but I must thank you for pointing to me to that article.
