Read text file from url to string?

I have been attempting to find a way to read a url (It's a dropbox link) of a text document to a string, I have looked at libcurl and have absolutely no idea how to use it. More importantly I need for this program to work on more then just my machine. I'm completely lost and have been working on this for a day now with no success. Any guidance would be much appreciated.
