Trying to read strings, separate them and store into vector

I am trying to read in a file, separate the file and store strings to different vectors. It seems like my code is alright, but i keep getting so many errors. Stig file looks like"1|Toy Story (1995)|01-Jan-1995||

What are those global pointers? Why they are pointers instead of objects? Why they are matrix?
In
MovieBase::checkTypeOfGenre()
when do you put a value in movieline?

i was trying to declare Movieline to be the first element in the MM vector. I'm just lost at this point and would like some direction or someone to point out my mistakes so i can get it to work
