Diagonalising a square matrix

Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding my need to diagonalize a square matrix?

Corsican
I find that Wikipedia always helps.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diagonalizable_matrix

The examples are good.

Hope this helps.
Do you mean say:
1 2 3 1 4 6
4 5 6 ------- > 7 2 5
7 8 9 9 8 3
....?
You should describe your requirement in detail!
I've only just had time to go back to this. - Thank you for your comments.

I think that the entry in Wikipedia has put me on the right track. I'd stopped using Wikipedia, awhile back. Mistake!

(I'd wanted to transform a square matrix such that only the entries, or some of the entries, on the leading diagonal are non zero.)
