Ive been programming in C++ for a decent amount of time. Ive been over most of the concepts of object oriented programming. Ive done UML. I know C++, perl, python, and VHDL. I got about a year left in college and im trying to think of useful/challenging projects to work on. For my senior project, we will be making software for a client, so that will be good. Mainly im looking for things to fill a portfolio. This summer I will be interning at a Nuclear plant where I will be interfacing systems, databases etc. As far as where I would like to work. I would like to work for this nuclear facility www.srs.gov or I would love to work for the NSA. So with that being said, can anyone give me any projects that would be challenging, and somewhat related to "real life".Anything to do with cryptology, info assurance, plain software development, topics to study, etc. It can even be on the hardware level. I would love to have input from you guys. All ideas are welcome. Also, if you need to know more about me, let me know.
waw nice work im still abiggener and im sure that i wil follow your steps
your words like gave me akik to work hard thanks alot^__^
ill see my brother in law he works as an airline company ill see put i cannot promiss u
that ill bring 4 u sth that hard and hard!!
Have you learned any design patterns? I highly recommend picking up a good book on them and as a bonus, it might make for a nice scholarly project to contrast the application of patterns across various languages. I would hope that potential employers would recognize the kind of extra effort required to not only implement the patterns but to analyze and understand them.
Also, design patterns will be beneficial independent of the technology being used. You could always get more in-depth with a specific technology, such as C++, but you may not want to count on potential employers always using it.
It sounds as if you will find your way without much trouble. Keep up the good work.

wtf?
@btripp. How is your knowledge of the STL, Data Structures & Algorithms? I recommend you dive deeper on the subjects if you have not done so. I also recommend learning C#. The majority of windows applications are going the C# route. If you aren't interested in C# you can always look into C++.net. There are quite a few companies looking for C++ developers that can work in managed code. Regardless of the language used, the .net framework woudl be valuable. Government systems are a mess of different stitched together systems so the more you know the better.
As far as projects, considering the environment you want to enter, you will be interfacing various applications built in different technology, so you should be experimenting with system integration. How much do you know about the types of systems the organization uses?

Just don't write any bugs that will blow us all up...
Thanks eveyone for replies. The organization I will be working with said that I will be using vb.net, and the database was sql mainly. He did mention that they are trying to make the move to C#, but as of right now, they use vb.net for what I will be doing.
