Hmm, well, I suppose I'm back...
Sorry I was so gruff. About teaching, I've spent that last seven years studying the best ways to teach. Further, there is a lot of data supporting certain methods over others.
A few years ago I would have agreed that system() was OK for stupid stuff and homework, but I've since learned from others more experienced than I in industrial contexts that bad habits really do die hard. A very surprising amout of software out there is riddled with things that would "never make it into production," just waiting for something untoward to happen.
Most of the things people use system() for are better done another way, or not done at all.
Anyway, here's something totally unrelated to the topic, just for fun:
Time flies like an arrow.
Fruit flies like a banana.
