Problem with my programming book

Hello, I have recently bought the book : programming priciples and practice using C++ by Stroustrup.My problem is that the exercises in the book have to be solved with facilities not yet explained. It was recommended to me up to read the topics that I need to complete the course in subsequent chapters, the author stated, however, that this book was written to be read chapter by chapter. What do you advise me to do? I'm just a beginner.
For example : i must solve a problem using compound if statement that is explainded in detail in the next chapter.
