This really has no place on these forums as it has nothing to do with programming. Your editor cannot compile programs, however you may be able to set it up to invoke an external compiler to do so for you.

gedit in Windows 8.1? Strange.

If you want to use gedit as your text editor, then try MinGW for a compiler.
