convert rgb to bmp file

hello all, i am trying to convert a rgb colorspace retreived from a webcam into a bmp file so it can be viewed. does anyone know the process for doing this? it seems that every tutorial on the web skips around this/does not thoroughly describe it- even better would be converting rgb to jpeg...

i originally start with a yuv colorspace, then convert it to rgb because i heard it was easier to convert rgb to bmp so you can view it... this is for an image capture application. it captures in yuyv format, then there MUST be some established way to take that and transform it into a jpeg! there are so many image capture applications! i just cant find a description of it on the web. thanks!
