I started up using dev-cpp it really simple and its compiler is really good is to tell you what your error might be

I thought dev was abandoned a long time ago? Also...yes I do mean Ides
(if an ide is what you use to help compile a program)

Is there any robust, easy to use, free, but effective compilers out there?

Dev-cpp is very simple not updated usually!
Visual Studio is trash as Microsoft!
