Using getline to read from a text file

Hello everyone I am fairly new to programming and I must say not very good at it. I was wondering if anyone had some pointers on how to make a program that can read from a text file and output the persons name and last name.

Also I need my program to output the persons party affiliation (with D=Democrat. And R=Republican) and have it add up the number of democrats vs republicans in each text file.

Any help would be much appreciated.
