Best books for Beginners

Actually the tutorials right here on this site would be a great place for you to start. They are really well written and up to date.

However if you want to know more about some parts of C++ you could start with

Beginning C++ Through Game Programming by Michael Dawson

and then go on with

C++ Without Fear by Brian Overland

and that should cover the basics really well

I'm in a similar position to you Cplusnovice. I've been using C++ for Java Programmers and it has been an easy transition so far for me.
