Predefined functions and series

1. question series, it's actually a set of switch function maybe, when user put 1.. this run, when put 2.. this functions run. well I get the rest but not this one. what does it mean? *n is read in main function
the rest two are predefined function.
a) is it just pow(x,(y-3)) ?
b) I dont know any predefined function to find the roots of equation. they ask for predefined not user defined
