Does enywon know if vcc will work on a 98?

Does your "a" key simply not work properly? This is by no means the first time you've struggled with it.

You won't be able to run the latest version of Visual C++ on Windows 98, but 2005 Express might work: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Programming/Other-Programming-Files/Microsoft-Visual-C-Toolkit.shtml

If it doesn't, you'll either have to buy a used copy of Visual C++ 6, or use an open source solution:
