cmake-gui, make????

I've been through a couple full length tutorials but nothing really covered cmake and make. From what I can tell cmake-gui makes make files for the compiler?

Not sure completely about that. but I downloaded some source files for open cv and I'm getting a little confused about what to do next. I did the cmake-gui whick looks like it made something that looks like make files but now what?
