How to use code tags-need precise way to use it

People keep telling me to use code tags and what not but im not quite sure how to use it, where it says format: i got to the first option and get a () I put it and nothing happens so please assist me on what this thing is.

- right-click to copy the whole/part of your code from the ide
- paste it into the edit box
- highlight it
- look to the right under Format: click the top left box i.e the one with the symbol <>
- done.
Then, write the description/problems/complains
