hey i havent posted in a while cuz my laptop has gots a nasty virus. i have ran norton like 15 times but it cant find it.
anyway i want to know all of the \ commands (such as \t \n and \a)
and i want to know if there is another way to make a tone (more than one kind if that is possible) besides \a. thanx in advance yall!!!!
Are you asking about commands to the Windows Command Shell? If that's the case then this is one of my favorite references for that stuff: http://ss64.com/nt/
lol i would but this virus keeps me from getting on the internet at all. my homepage is google and when i click on the internet icon it starts to work and the address bar shows that im on google but then it just shuts down on me.
Or burn the antiviral software to a disk from another computer (obviously, do not carry it over on a memory stick lest you end up spreading the virus).
This is definatly something running in task manager. I know you can't really get a screen shot but try to make a list of your running processes on your next post. Also if this is a laptop we'll need a make and model, if it's a desk top that won't matter as much.
Not that I mean to hijack your thread for this but I've been doing this for about 8 years now and I've gotten pretty good at it if I say so myself.
If nothing important is on there nuking it from orbit is always the best solution. That means format the drive and start over.
I agree with computerGeek. Every time I've had a virus, or even if my computer gets slow over a few days, I just format and reinstall everyting.
Not too hard for me though, cause I use a partitioned HDD. I install the OS to the first partition then anything else goes to another. A format just wipes the OS clean.
...to another device. hanst99 appears to have drifted off in thought for a moment but he means to copy your data to a CD\DVD, thumb drive or external HDD. I would recommend zipping the data you copy as this will prevent a lot of autoruns from executing when you go to restore your data which may reinfect your newly formatted system.
Also after you get all of your device drivers installed and data restored a defrag will always be good even if your system clams it doesn't need it.
thanx yall i think my dad is taking my computer ro a IT tech specialist or something like that, but i wont forget all of your posts so that if all else fails i can try one of those ideas. once again, thanx alot

Drifted off? How so? I said copy the data over to some external device (implied, not literally said that) but with another OS so you won't end up spreading your infection.
Yes and your advice was solid but it's important to be verbose with this stuff. I may have worked as support for too long but I've seen some seemingly obvious things get horribly messed up.
When you have limited activations and stuff like that you should look into Imaging software like FOG or Clonezilla. This way you can make a bit by bit snapshot of your drive to go back to in the event of a failure. It doesn't always work on every application but the two suggestions I just made are free software so I'd say it's worth a shot.
Would that maintain the DiskID. Problem is, formatting changes this ID and the license file is tethered to it. Otherwise I would have just made a backup.
Mind you, I might look into disk imaging anyway as reinstalling everything by hand is immeasurably tiresome...
A byte by byte copy will be as exact a copy as possible from one disk to the next. So as long as your destination drive is large enough to hold the image then you should be fine.
