microsoft has a program they call dreamspark where they give developer software to students for free. So you could get visual studio 2010 for free. check it out here: https://www.dreamspark.com/default.aspx
I just thought that more people needed to know about this.
That wasn't criticism, I just wanted to say it's worth mentioning. I mean, if you already tell them, why not give them all the info at once so they don't have to assemble it all by themselves?
I haven't done much site-digging, but something tells me that you're permitted to use products obtained for free through DreamSpark only for academic purposes.
I prefer the political free over the economic free any day...
