the return value

hi everybody. I'm newcomer to C++.
I just wonder, if i get the output in this such of form.. "-1.#IND00000e+000", what this normally imply? Does this means that the calculation cannot return the value, or that the value is small enough to be printed, or it means totally just different from what I reckon?
Thanks guys. Appreciate your help.
Could you give us some code? By the looks of it something's gone screwy - badly. I assume you're using a float by the looks.
