If only I had permissions to give you access to proprietary stuff, I would be amazed by your comments. Guys I have been here from 2014 and yet non of you can, believe me.

Guys go research about how the first jet engine came into being, the guy who attempted the trials was rejected by all scientists and engineers they said it could not be done, they said there was no material capable of handling the extreme temperatures and that was true, how then was it done in the end, they all couldn't believe it, scientists and engineers could be wrong folks, They incorporated the jet engine into the mainstream Jet propulsion and aerodynamics, and who did that, the same scientist and now they take pride in it.

Think of those guys of the ancient, tell them do you know that you can carry 350 passengers on a 100 Tonne metal machine that flies 30,000ft in the air, am sure the engineers would say not in any way we know of, if they could come back now what would they say when they see all the airplanes.

Guys you need to believe that everything is possible.

@Helios yea, see folks if you believe in something, get onto that rough road search for the truth, don't limit yourselves by believing in the scientists alone, {they are good and they help us get around but some times they create bias in our minds so that we are scared off complex ploblems} walk that path and search for the truth and it will set you free.

If you were dropped in another planet without the conditions of this world would you find other ways to survive, maybe you would find another way of cooking that doesn't even involve fire or heat, the folks here would be wowed.

What's the point of continuing this thread? You asked a question and were told by a few people that they think it's basically impossible (at least at this time). Why are you still here, and not off solving whatever it is you're trying to solve? Aren't you wasting your time at this point?

This thread went from one on programming:

write an algorithm to extract all nouns from random text

to one on theology and philosophy.

Nothing wrong with that, if it had IN MY OPINION taken place in the appropriate forum. This wasn't a beginners' question.

Am I offending you guys?

I don't think anyone was offended, I know I wasn't.

I'm kinda miffed now you bailed and closed out your account. You left just as things were getting interesting in a lounge sorta way.

Sadly the last few comments made sounded more and more like the OP was trolling, unlike the early ones.

Well, another rage quit. I did not expect that...

On the original topic (identifying nouns in text), after thinking more about my approach and its (numerous) shortcomings, I did some googling to see what experts in the field say. The field is called, predictably, “POS tagging”, and it is not a particularly easy one.

The approach most used in practice is the “CRF model”, for which there is a nice introductory article here (https://medium.com/analytics-vidhya/pos-tagging-using-conditional-random-fields-92077e5eaa31). It intersects with predictive text technologies, building a probability database based on 1–3 prior words.

It was a fun thing to mess with, but I think I am done with it for now.

I for one am sad to see Yolanda go.
