Not understanding functions!

I'm pretty new to the c++ language and programming all together. I was wondering since functions are a large part of programming if anyone can give me some basic knowledge about the different kinds of them, how to declare and pass arguments through. I've touched on this before but it doesn't want to stick in my head. I really need help understanding this
