C++ Redistributable Install Error

I'm a total novice with C++ and I need some help resolving a problem.

I'm trying to install a program on one of my PCs that requires the C++ 2010 x86 redistributable. When the program installer gets to the point where it tries to install it the process fails and the installer exits.

I have also tried installing it manually (downloaded from MS) and that fails with the following error message: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable has not been installed because: Fatal error during installation.

This PC has a fairly recent clean install of Windows 10 Pro 64bit. I've had no problems installing anything else. Already installed on this PC: C++ 2012 Redistributable x64 and C++ 2013 Redistributable x64.

As a total novice I am clueless as to the possible causes of this problem and what to do to fix it. Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks.
Peter
Have you tried googling "redist windows 10 Fatal error during installation"?

Di you look at the system requirements/supported operating systems on the official MS download page? Win 10 is not listed as supported.

For that matter Win 8/8.1 is not supported either. With the 2012/2013 redists 8/8.1 is a supported system.

Yes, I Googled "redist windows 10 Fatal error during installation" and came up mostly with messages from others having a similar problem plus a few suggestions. I've tried all of the relevant suggestions but no luck so far.

Yes, I did look at system requirements and saw that Win10 is not officially supported. I continue to pursue this because on three of my other Win10 PCs there was no problem installing it.

The program I'm trying to install specifically needs the 2010 redist.
