Listing contents of a file

Hello guys I am not sure how hard or easy this is because if I am being honest I have no idea how to start it. I could do this in a script with bash :D but that's not what needs to be done. I need to list the contents of a file,I have been looking and I have only seen stuff to list whats in directories but not a specific file. Any help would be awesome!! It is my last quarter and I have 3 weeks left just trying to finish strong and not get lazy :/
