I haven't learned any code yet. I've downloaded DevC++ compiler, which recently has some video support code, to what limits that will help me I don't know.
My OBJECTIVE; to become a good programmer of C++ a.s.a.p. in order to land a good job somewhere after hopefully just 6 months of intense learning, since I have all the time in the world (8+hrs a day 6 days a week).
I'd like to learn C++ in any form, I don't mind taking extra time, but I know compilers will certainly save time. What is the best and most widely adapted form of C++???
Should I learn more than one platform (compiler)? Is Dev a waste of time if I want to compete with REAL c++ programmers?
Please tell me everything you can. Thanks

Right, by the way; I use an hpdv6000 laptop with vista and sometimes Ubuntu.
I have a new system coming in the mail; it's a custom built i7 920 with an Nvidia 260 video card...

6 months? No. It will take you 6 months to absorb a great deal of an average text book (e.g. The C++ Programming Language is almost 1000 pages long), and you're still not good. You're just one step above beginner.
To give you an idea of how long it takes to become good, I became competent after five years of programming and two and a half to three of C++. That was a year and a half ago, and I'd dare to say that, right now, I'm good.
