Lookin to get back into C++

Hey folks, I took on C++ for a good solid 4 - 6 months then took a bit of time off. During those 4 - 6 months it was 12+ hour days hammering in information, projects, and learning, always learning :)

Anyways, after taking a few months break I wanna get back into the swing of things, but more specifically into the 2d games area. I messed around with the SDL library a bit but never fully got into it.

What do you all suggest for an easy into back into 2d game dev? is it still the same Allegro or SDL? and which do you recommend of the two if thats all that is out there?

Thanks folks!
My preference is SDL for 2d. It works well with OpenGL. There really isn't too much difference between SDL and Allegro however SDL has extensions to expand the API and I think Allegro is just built right in.
Yeah alright. Now I just gotta get some SDL tutorials and references again. I feel as though I have lost 90% of my knowledge of SDL :(
Haha yeah it's not really too good to take a long break off of learning this kind of thing. I did the same thing and had to skim through all of my references to get back the knowledge I lost from the long break.

As for getting into 2d games, I have little to no experience by this point (I plan to professionally make 3d games!), but I've heard SDL and OpenGL to be the most popular with graphics.

Good luck getting back into game developing!
heh if I could get 2 small boxes on the screen with collision detection between them I'd be happy.
