Proper studpid question...

Really sorry about this, but im reading a lot of books on C++ at the mo, and a lot of them use 'for' and 'while'.

im sorry to ask such a dumb question, but i really cant find a decent explanation of what they mean.

Could you tell me, in detail, what they mean, and how / when would be appropriate to use them? I kinda feel like im not getting a lot of stuff because of this...
