How Much Experience for Competitions

Hello guys! This is my first post on this website and I am completely new to C++. I have been introduced to the USACO competition, but I have heard that it is relatively difficult. Would anyone be kind enough to explain how much experience one should have in C++ before taking part in this competition? I am well aware that people learn at different paces, but I am wondering about the knowledge of material in C++ that I would need to know. A bit about me: I am a freshmen learning VB in school. I am learning C++ from the written tutorials on this site.
