Program Compiles But Won't Run

Does anyone here work with the programs in Charles Petzold's "Windows" books? I am asking because I am trying to get his "Typer" program to work. It complies, opens a window, then freezes. Honestly, I am clueless on this one. Has anyone worked with this particular program? If necessary, I could try to post the entire code (it is a bit lengthy).

Petzold's Programming Windows 5th Edition code needs some revising to compile and work. Someone has done a lot of that work already:
