Bio: | IT supporter who is getting second programming wind after becoming disillusioned during the java up(swing) < pun intended.
I always considered c++ to be the most interesting language and i like it's logic. I firmly believe that anyone learning to program will have the best foundation by choosing c++, but it's worth taking the time to learn the shorcuts - i.e the ones noted on your "operators" guide as these save a lot of time and code when understod. Also, try doing some of thos things in visual basic without it going haywire..! I mainly write apps to fill the holes in requirements of the company I work for, and generally choose the language which seems most suited / best supported at the time. e.g - if I am writing an app to keep track of our users on the network I will just search for results from people who have tried the same thing, if there are more questions than solutions then that language is probably not the right choice for rapid development in that area, on the other hand if there are loads of howtots, then that language is probably most suited. Sounds a bit lame, but it works.... I have noticed a recurring trend that most of the problems i attempt to solve are best documented and implemented in c or c++, i know that these languages have been around longer than most, but I think the power that these languages give to the programmer also scores points. Sorry bout the long bio... waffle waffle |
