If you are planning to have multiple distinct computers, I would set up one master machine in one location with several monitors. Those can be arranged to either be a fat desktop with many programs open at once or you can be remote desktop into the other machines as needed. Work there, with that arranged as makes sense for whatever you are doing. This makes it sound like you need more monitors... I would advise 3-4 total (one can be a latop's screen if your master is a laptop: that is how I do it at work they give us 2 and I have 3 using the laptop screen too).
